Don’t Miss the CHFA Expo East This Weekend!
- Sept 30, 2009
CHFA Expo East begins this Friday at the Metro Toronto Convention Center with its conference segment followed by two days of the largest trade event for natural products and organics in Canada. With over 3400 attendees at last year’s event, CHFA’s Expo East is definitely a must for buyers, retailers, health practitioners, and industry professionals.
Friday’s conference day kicks off with a “Breakfast with InspireHealth”, where C.E.O. Dr. Hal Gunn will speak about several aspects of Integrated Cancer Care. All proceeds from this event will be donated to InspireHealth Integrated Cancer Center, a non-profit society that has served more than 5,000 patients since 1997.
The remainder of Friday’s sessions offer conference attendees the choice of two paths: the “General Session” or the “Organic Program”. The general session begins with a session titled “Recession Proof Retailing” which focuses on the challenges brought forth by economic slowdown, competition and discounters. Industry icon Danny Wells will communicate the need to continuously adapt to market conditions and changing consumer shopping behaviours. The afternoon will be followed by an afternoon of product education sessions with a variety of topics to choose from as described in the Pre-Show Planner.
The organic program begins with an overview of organics, where organic certification and marketing specialist Joe Smillie will discuss Canadian, North American, and International progress. Matthew Holmes, managing director of the Organic Trade Association (OTA) will then introduce the Canada Organic Retailing Practices (CORP) manual. This manual provides retailers with industry best-practices with regards to handling, displaying and selling organic food. Last but certainly not least, Canada’s new Organic regulations will be the topic of the final afternoon session. Panellists Dave Lockman, Tom Manley, and Michel Saumur will discuss the changes to market regulations, packaging, and labelling, as well as the new organic logo.
The trade show will be open Saturday October 3rd and Sunday October 4th from 10am until 5pm and will feature over 500 exhibits. The dicentra team will be in attendance, so we’ll see you at the show!
